Microblading

What is Microblading?
In essence microblading is the process of creating hair like cuts in your eyebrow area. These tiny cuts are then filled in with a specially formulated ink/pigment to simulate the look of fuller eyebrows and fill sparse eyebrow areas.

The Process
When it comes to microblading, the process is easy:
1. Consultation/Assessment:
You lay face up on an aesthetic/massage bed and you and your Artist go over what you would like done.
Then your Brow-Artist does a pre-drawing (outline like) shape of the desired eyebrow look, and this is followed by color and patch testing to get your right hair color, and confirm that you are not allergic to the pigment.
2. Prep and Microblading:
Some Eyebrow-Artists use numbing creams to help reduce the clients pain. One before starting, and the one after the first set of hair stroke marks. Check with your Artist to see if they will be using any numbing products on you. Then, microblading begins.
Your Artist begins her magic and starts drawing your new set of eyebrows. With the help of her handheld needle tool she will do minor scratches on your skin and proceed to add pigment in them to have these look like your natural eyebrow hairs. About two hours later you are out the door with fuller looking brows.

Is Microblading Painful?
It depends on the pain tolerance of each individual, but if you have a low pain tolerance ask your Artist if they use a numbing cream that can help ease the process.
Also, remember that the first few minutes of something new your body is super alert and tries to assimilate what is going on. This means that you may feel a tad more pain at the beginning of your appointment, but try and relax. After a little while your body gets out of fight-or-flight response and becomes less sensitive to sensation of pain.
If things get uncomfortable, DON'T BE SHY TO SPEAK with your Artist, they can help you best by applying more numbing cream, walk you through breathing, help you relax, and help you assess "what is going on" during your appointment.

Aftercare
The aftercare is easy, but CRUCIAL specially the next seven to ten days after your appointment. BEST CARE will help you get long lasting effects with no scaring or fading, .
Also, Taking poor care of your eyebrows will shorten the life of the pigment/color that was just added to your skin, and this can also make you prone to an infection or scabbing/scaring.
To get the most for your buck and avoid complications follow all directions as best as you can!
Care Instructions
You'll need to stay away from water for the first 24 - 48 hours.
Keep the area moisturized with the ointment given to you by your artist.
The use of Makeup is not recommended, but if you must only use oil free products to remove your make-up.
You will also be asked to avoid the gym, sauna, excessive sweating, tanning and make-up on brows. and itching or scratching the area.
Will I scab?
You will experience some scabbing where the small cuts were created. Don't try to remove the scabs or itch your eyebrows, and allow the scabs or flakes to fall off naturally.
Follow Up Appointment AKA the Top-Up Session
You'll need to go back for a touch-up appointment 4-6 weeks after your first visit to go over any lines that lightened and/or make any adjustments you and your Artist see fit. Ask your Artist weather or not your follow up appointment is included in your total.
Your second appointment will be about an hour long, and will require the same aftercare for the next seven to ten days.
Voila! you've got fuller natural looking Eye-brows for the next 12-18 months!
Other things to consider:
How much does Microblading cost?
Prices for microblading vary from Artist to Artist and can range between 400 and 600 dollars. Ask your Artist what her fee includes and weather or not your follow up appointment will be included in this fee.
Can microblading be removed?
Yes, a salt/saline solution can be used to remove microbladed eyebrows, consult a professional.
What if I feel that my eyebrows turned out too dark?
If you feel that your brows are too dark, be patient, this is totally normal after a microblading appointment. Understand that brows will be up to 40% darker in shade for the first 7-10 days during the healing process. After 7-10 days, you will begin to see the final color.
How long does microblading last?
Depending on your skin type: Microblading can last between 12 to 18 months. The longevity of the pigment will depend on your skin type and the after care. The less oily and better care you give your eyebrows the more your pigment will last.
Keep in mind that touch ups are needed or your eyebrows can eventually fade away. If possible try and schedule touch ups every 18 months or so.
